Speaker 1: Hello and Welcome back to Koala Moon, a podcast of
00:00:14
Speaker 1: original children's bedtime stories and meditations designed to make bedtime
00:00:20
Speaker 1: a tree. I'm happy to say our littless Koala friend
00:00:25
Speaker 1: is off on another grand adventure. I know he's a
00:00:28
Speaker 1: busy little Marsup puel with his jet setting trips to
00:00:32
Speaker 1: the Moon, ancient Egypt, and the USA, but this time
00:00:36
Speaker 1: is super special as he is off to the land
00:00:39
Speaker 1: of his ancestors. Yes, finally, Coco's going to Australia. He
00:00:46
Speaker 1: and his Auntie arrive there on Shirley's little red plane
00:00:49
Speaker 1: and by happy accident, they meet Keith, a long lost relative.
00:00:55
Speaker 1: Now it's soon time to get started, so you know
00:00:58
Speaker 1: what to do. Lie back, relax into your bed, and
00:01:03
Speaker 1: take some even and steady breaths. As you close your eyes,
00:01:09
Speaker 1: imagine a far away forest of tall trees gently swaying
00:01:14
Speaker 1: in the breeze. Down in the clearing, there is a
00:01:18
Speaker 1: little cabin, a cozy little cabin. Let's begin Coco's Ossy Adventure.
00:01:26
Speaker 1: By Susannah McLaughlin. Deep in the heart of a far
00:01:36
Speaker 1: away forest stood a cozy cabin. Inside the cabin lived
00:01:41
Speaker 1: a family of Koalas the youngest Koala was called Cocoa. Now,
00:01:48
Speaker 1: this Koala family had lived in Sleepy Forest for many years.
00:01:53
Speaker 1: They knew the rivers, the flowers, the animals, and the
00:01:58
Speaker 1: trees as their closest anser did. But recently, Coco had
00:02:03
Speaker 1: been wondering where his family came from before that, so
00:02:07
Speaker 1: he asked his grandpa. Coco sat down on the carpet
00:02:11
Speaker 1: in front of his grandpa and waited politely for him
00:02:14
Speaker 1: to look up from his book before asking his question. Grandpa,
00:02:21
Speaker 1: where did our ancestors come from, Coco asked, before they
00:02:26
Speaker 1: came to Sleepy Forest? I mean Coco's Grandpa put his
00:02:30
Speaker 1: book down, sat back in his armchair and scratched the
00:02:34
Speaker 1: tuft of white fur on the top of his head
00:02:37
Speaker 1: where I'm not sure, Coco, He said, we'd need to
00:02:43
Speaker 1: check the family tree for that. Coco asked where the
00:02:48
Speaker 1: family tree was, and Grandpa scratched his chin and said
00:02:52
Speaker 1: he'd never thought about it before. He told Coco that
00:02:55
Speaker 1: their family tree would have been planted years and years ago,
00:02:59
Speaker 1: as the ancestor would have told the sapling about their
00:03:04
Speaker 1: family history, and the magical tree would have remembered everything
00:03:09
Speaker 1: and it would know all about the future. Generations too,
00:03:13
Speaker 1: mapping out how the family grows and moves over centuries.
00:03:18
Speaker 1: But where could Coco's family tree be. Maybe it was
00:03:23
Speaker 1: in the forest somewhere. Maybe he could go and find it.
00:03:28
Speaker 1: And so Coco set out into sleepy forest on the
00:03:32
Speaker 1: search for his family tree. He walked down winding paths
00:03:37
Speaker 1: through pine trees, oak trees, and silver birch. He checked
00:03:42
Speaker 1: apple trees, cherry trees, orange trees, and lemon trees, but
00:03:49
Speaker 1: not one of them was his family tree. A little
00:03:55
Speaker 1: after lunchtime, Coco sat munching on an apple in the
00:03:58
Speaker 1: shade of a willow on the top of the hill,
00:04:01
Speaker 1: looking at the treetops below. I'll never find my family tree,
00:04:09
Speaker 1: Coco side. It could be any one of them. Coco
00:04:15
Speaker 1: heard a deep, warm voice echo from behind him. No,
00:04:22
Speaker 1: it couldn't be any tree, the voice said, families only
00:04:30
Speaker 1: have one tree each, and they have to have planted
00:04:37
Speaker 1: it themselves. Take me, for example, I was planted by
00:04:44
Speaker 1: a koala hundreds of years ago, Keith I think his
00:04:50
Speaker 1: name was, or Carl. It began with a K that
00:04:56
Speaker 1: I know. Coco smiled and turned around. On the trunk
00:05:01
Speaker 1: of the tree had appeared a kind wise face formed
00:05:05
Speaker 1: from the willow bark. He was smiling at Coco knowingly.
00:05:10
Speaker 1: Coco smiled back, Are you my family tree? He asked.
00:05:17
Speaker 1: The willow grinned and said yes. Coco laughed and jumped
00:05:22
Speaker 1: to his feet. I've been looking for you, he said.
00:05:28
Speaker 1: The willow chuckled and said he'd tell him anything he
00:05:31
Speaker 1: needed to know. Where did my family come from, Coco asked,
00:05:38
Speaker 1: When they arrived in Sleepy Forest from a land called Australia.
00:05:47
Speaker 1: The willow replied, far away on the other side of
00:05:52
Speaker 1: the world. It's a ginenormous island floating in the bluest
00:05:59
Speaker 1: of ocean, and there's rainforests and beeches, green fields and
00:06:06
Speaker 1: dusty outback and animals and plants of all kinds. Coco
00:06:13
Speaker 1: thought it sounded like a perfect place for an adventure.
00:06:18
Speaker 1: The family tree agreed. He said it was good to
00:06:21
Speaker 1: travel to where you came from. He said, it can
00:06:25
Speaker 1: make you feel closer to your ancestors. Why don't you
00:06:31
Speaker 1: call your auntie Shirley, he asked, take a ride in
00:06:37
Speaker 1: her shiny new plane. You know Auntie Shirley, Coco asked
00:06:43
Speaker 1: the willow. I know all of your family, Coco, he said,
00:06:50
Speaker 1: I'm your family tree. Coco hugged the tree's trunk and
00:06:57
Speaker 1: said thank you, before running back through the feeld fields
00:07:00
Speaker 1: and forests towards the cabin. To his surprise, Auntie Shirley
00:07:05
Speaker 1: was sitting at the counter eating a slice of cake
00:07:08
Speaker 1: when he returned. Hello, Coco, She said, she held up
00:07:14
Speaker 1: a leaf. This leaf drifted to me on the breeze.
00:07:19
Speaker 1: It looks to me like this came from our family tree.
00:07:24
Speaker 1: I thought this could only mean one thing. Coco's ready
00:07:30
Speaker 1: for an adventure. Coco laughed and said yes, he wanted
00:07:35
Speaker 1: to go to Australia. After hugging their family and promising
00:07:41
Speaker 1: to bring them souvenirs, Coco and Auntie Shirley hopped into
00:07:45
Speaker 1: the Little Red Shiny Plain. Auntie Shirley informed Coco that
00:07:51
Speaker 1: she'd met a little magic bear in the woods, tiny Terry.
00:07:55
Speaker 1: His name was such a nice little bear. They had
00:08:00
Speaker 1: chatted about Auntie Shirley's adventures and her tiny plane. Terry
00:08:05
Speaker 1: said he'd like to help her go even further and
00:08:09
Speaker 1: sprinkled some magic dust on the engine. Now it was
00:08:13
Speaker 1: even faster than before. They'd be in Australia in no time.
00:08:21
Speaker 1: Even Sokko felt his eyes drift close on the plane journey,
00:08:27
Speaker 1: lulled by the sight of fluffy clouds and the soft
00:08:32
Speaker 1: sound of the engine, and as usual, he took an
00:08:37
Speaker 1: afternoon nap. He awoke when the plane wheels touched down
00:08:42
Speaker 1: on a sandy shore. The sand was white and the
00:08:46
Speaker 1: sky blue, and the air was deliciously warm. Coco and
00:08:53
Speaker 1: his auntie hopped out of the plane and changed into
00:08:56
Speaker 1: their swimsuits and swam in the shallows, splashing one another
00:09:01
Speaker 1: in giggling. Cocoa was prepared with his floppy sun hat
00:09:06
Speaker 1: on and a stripe of suncream down his nose. There
00:09:10
Speaker 1: were animals surfing in the frothy waves, sandy colored dogs
00:09:15
Speaker 1: and wallabies, and a wombat was bobbing in a dingy sunbathing.
00:09:22
Speaker 1: Before long, the duo were refreshed and ready to explore.
00:09:28
Speaker 1: A wooden sign told them that they had landed at
00:09:32
Speaker 1: Bell's Beach. The beach was hugged by golden orange cliffs
00:09:37
Speaker 1: that seemed to glow in the sunshine. The top of
00:09:40
Speaker 1: the cliffs were covered in trees and bushes, and Coco
00:09:44
Speaker 1: was excited to see a grove of eucalyptus trees there,
00:09:49
Speaker 1: covered in delicious leaves. He pointed them out to Auntie Shirley,
00:09:54
Speaker 1: and she giggled, our ancestors might have snoozed in those
00:10:00
Speaker 1: trees munching on leaves. Maybe we should have a snack
00:10:07
Speaker 1: in their honor. Auntie Shirley and Coco hiked to the
00:10:12
Speaker 1: top of the hill and each climbed a eucalyptus tree,
00:10:16
Speaker 1: finding comfy spots between the boughs and picking leaves to
00:10:20
Speaker 1: munch on. As they took in the view of the
00:10:24
Speaker 1: endless sea from their perches, Coco heard a long yawn
00:10:30
Speaker 1: coming from the trees next to him. He peeked through
00:10:34
Speaker 1: the foliage to see a third koala waking up from
00:10:38
Speaker 1: one of his many nats. Ooh, good day, the koala yawned.
00:10:45
Speaker 1: The names Keith, Auntie Shirley, and Coco introduced themselves. Another
00:10:52
Speaker 1: perfect day for snoozing, Keith said. Auntie Shirley agreed, but
00:10:59
Speaker 1: said that they had no time for snoozing. They were
00:11:02
Speaker 1: on an adventure, are you now? Keith asked what for.
00:11:10
Speaker 1: Coco told Keith about the family tree and explained that
00:11:14
Speaker 1: they were on a mission to visit the land of
00:11:17
Speaker 1: their ancestors. Keith slowly walked down his bow and settled
00:11:23
Speaker 1: on a low branch where he could see Auntie Shirley
00:11:27
Speaker 1: and Coco clearly. Well, I never, he said, My great
00:11:34
Speaker 1: great great great great uncle moved to Sleepy Forest hundreds
00:11:40
Speaker 1: of years ago. My family tree told me mine's a
00:11:46
Speaker 1: palm tree. He added. Auntie Shirley leapt from her branch
00:11:52
Speaker 1: to Keith's and gave him a squeeze. What luck they
00:11:56
Speaker 1: had to have climbed the neighboring tree to their their
00:12:00
Speaker 1: very own, long long lost cousin. Keith said that this
00:12:06
Speaker 1: stroke of luck couldn't have been a coincidence. It was fate.
00:12:11
Speaker 1: Shirley and Coco needed a tour guide, and who better
00:12:15
Speaker 1: than their long lost cousin Keith, And so Keith, Coco
00:12:21
Speaker 1: and Auntie Shirley climbed down their trees and headed towards
00:12:24
Speaker 1: the little red airplane waiting on the sands. Keith was
00:12:29
Speaker 1: a little slow at first, the extra round short Koala
00:12:34
Speaker 1: needed to stretch after sleeping in the tree for so long.
00:12:39
Speaker 1: He did a short yoga routine and then felt right
00:12:43
Speaker 1: as rain, walking at Coco's side and chatting about this,
00:12:47
Speaker 1: that and everything. Once in the plane, with everybody's flight
00:12:52
Speaker 1: caps and goggles in place. Keith pointed out some directions
00:12:56
Speaker 1: on the map, and Shirley brought the plane off the
00:13:00
Speaker 1: ground with a happy whoop. Coco rested his nose against
00:13:05
Speaker 1: the window as he looked below him at the miles
00:13:08
Speaker 1: and miles of craggy cliffs and white sandy beaches, and
00:13:13
Speaker 1: the twirly road that ran along next to them. Being
00:13:17
Speaker 1: driven upon by camper vans bursting at the seams with
00:13:21
Speaker 1: camping gear and surfboards, they flew over cities and towns
00:13:27
Speaker 1: and big swathes of forested countryside, following the coastline for miles.
00:13:34
Speaker 1: It turned out that, like Auntie, Shirley and Coco, Keith
00:13:38
Speaker 1: was rather fond of a sing song, and he taught
00:13:41
Speaker 1: them funny songs that had them in fits of giggles.
00:13:46
Speaker 1: Soon enough, Keith told Auntie Shirley that it was time
00:13:50
Speaker 1: to make her descent. They were headed towards a city
00:13:54
Speaker 1: that spread over juts of land connected by harbors, with
00:13:58
Speaker 1: small boats tooting across the bay. Their little plane landed
00:14:04
Speaker 1: by the water side in a big green park. The
00:14:09
Speaker 1: three coadas took a stroll along the waterfront, licking ice
00:14:13
Speaker 1: cream that they brought from a kinder kidnap at a
00:14:17
Speaker 1: refreshment stand. As they rounded the corner, Coco stopped in
00:14:23
Speaker 1: his tracks. A building in front of him had taken
00:14:28
Speaker 1: his breath away. It was dazzlingly white and constructed in
00:14:33
Speaker 1: a way that made it look like the sails of
00:14:35
Speaker 1: a boat coming up from the water. Coco would have
00:14:40
Speaker 1: dropped his ice cream had Auntie Shirley not noticed and
00:14:43
Speaker 1: caught it. Auntie Shirley gasped, it's the Sydney Opera House.
00:14:51
Speaker 1: She said, I've only seen this on the front of
00:14:54
Speaker 1: a postcard. Auntie Shirley scooped Coco up onto her shoulders
00:15:00
Speaker 1: and handed Keith her camera to snap a photo. As
00:15:05
Speaker 1: Keith was telling them to say cheese, her wombat waddled
00:15:09
Speaker 1: over and tapped Keith on the shoulder. She was almost spherical,
00:15:15
Speaker 1: with short arms and legs, as snuffly nose, and pretty
00:15:20
Speaker 1: brown eyes. She asked Keith if he wanted to be
00:15:23
Speaker 1: in the picture too. She said it was a shame
00:15:26
Speaker 1: to have such a handsome koala behind the camera. Keith
00:15:30
Speaker 1: blushed and said yes please, and rushed to join Coco
00:15:35
Speaker 1: and Shirley in their picture. After they had bought some
00:15:39
Speaker 1: souvenirs from a nearby stand for the rest of the family.
00:15:43
Speaker 1: The Koalas headed back towards the plane. Coco said he
00:15:48
Speaker 1: was glad to have met a real Australian wombat and
00:15:52
Speaker 1: said that he would like to meet more Australian animals.
00:15:56
Speaker 1: Keith replied that in that case, next they were go
00:16:00
Speaker 1: north to Kakadoo National Park, but first they had to
00:16:05
Speaker 1: stop at the Blue Mountains. Auntie Shirley squealed with excitement,
00:16:11
Speaker 1: and the trio once more took to the skies. As
00:16:16
Speaker 1: the plain flew east, the land got hilly and then mountainous.
00:16:22
Speaker 1: Are the mountains actually blue, Coco asked. Keith told him
00:16:29
Speaker 1: that no, they weren't actually blue. The rock is a warm,
00:16:33
Speaker 1: sandy color and they're covered in green trees like usual.
00:16:38
Speaker 1: But when you gaze into the distance at the Blue Mountains,
00:16:42
Speaker 1: everything is bathed in a soft blue glow. That's why
00:16:47
Speaker 1: they have that name. When they landed at the Blue Mountains,
00:16:52
Speaker 1: Keith guided the duo towards a path that would take
00:16:55
Speaker 1: them on a loop to a waterfall. Their walk was lovely,
00:16:59
Speaker 1: with a soundtrack of clicks and gasps as Auntie Shirley
00:17:03
Speaker 1: took picture after picture of the gorgeous views. As they
00:17:09
Speaker 1: neared the waterfall, they used stepping stones to cross a
00:17:13
Speaker 1: river cutting their path. Coco looked to his right and
00:17:17
Speaker 1: saw a furry brown creature floating on the river's current,
00:17:22
Speaker 1: with its wide, shiny bill resting on the water's surface.
00:17:27
Speaker 1: Coco called a cheery good day, and the animal disappeared
00:17:32
Speaker 1: with a splash and a splosh. Keith chuckled, that's a platypus,
00:17:39
Speaker 1: he said, they're usually quite shy. The three koalas cooled
00:17:46
Speaker 1: after the animal, and he bashfully floated to the surface
00:17:50
Speaker 1: once more. He looked a bit like a beaver, with
00:17:53
Speaker 1: a brown body and a flat tail. Apart from his
00:17:57
Speaker 1: bill and webbed feet, he was also shaped a bit
00:18:01
Speaker 1: like a bean bag. The platypus gave a sheepish grin
00:18:06
Speaker 1: and said hello. He explained that platypuses had a tendency
00:18:12
Speaker 1: to hide in the water when other animals came by.
00:18:15
Speaker 1: If they were feeling especially shy. They could even stay
00:18:19
Speaker 1: under there for ten whole minutes. Coco complimented the platypus's
00:18:26
Speaker 1: swimming skills. He wasn't so good at swimming underwater himself.
00:18:31
Speaker 1: He preferred floating on his back and looking up at
00:18:34
Speaker 1: the clouds, he suggested the platypus try it. So he did.
00:18:40
Speaker 1: The platypus spun onto his back and pointed his bill
00:18:44
Speaker 1: towards the sun. He propelled himself lazily down the river,
00:18:50
Speaker 1: smiling gently. That is much better, thank you, he called.
00:19:00
Speaker 1: Coco waggled his fingers at him, and the three koalas
00:19:04
Speaker 1: watched as the platypus floated out of sight. They soon
00:19:09
Speaker 1: arrived at the waterfall, which cascaded down a cliff side
00:19:12
Speaker 1: into the valley below. It was the biggest waterfall Coco
00:19:17
Speaker 1: had ever seen. After taking another grinning photograph in front
00:19:23
Speaker 1: of the scene, Keith, Auntie, Shirley, and Coco continued on
00:19:28
Speaker 1: their walk back to the little red aeroplane, which would
00:19:31
Speaker 1: take them north to Kakadoo National Park. They flew over
00:19:37
Speaker 1: green rainforests that turned into dusty red outback and pointed
00:19:43
Speaker 1: down at hopping hordes of kangaroos. They saw Uluru, a
00:19:48
Speaker 1: ginormous dusty red rock being visited and marveled at by
00:19:53
Speaker 1: all kinds of creatures. Finally, they flew over a seemingly
00:20:01
Speaker 1: never ending national park, Cuckadoo, miles and miles of untouched nature.
00:20:11
Speaker 1: Coco gazed out of the window at green water holes,
00:20:15
Speaker 1: grassy hills, and cascading waterfalls. The aeroplane touched down in
00:20:22
Speaker 1: a clearing near the biggest of the waterfalls. Coco closed
00:20:27
Speaker 1: his eyes and listened to the torrent splashing and crashing
00:20:32
Speaker 1: into a glimmering still pool. As they climbed down the
00:20:37
Speaker 1: little steps, Coco took off his hat and fanned himself.
00:20:43
Speaker 1: It was hotter here and more humid too. Thank goodness,
00:20:48
Speaker 1: there were pools to splash themselves with. The clearing had
00:20:53
Speaker 1: plenty of animals to say hello to. Gleaming crested cockatoos
00:20:59
Speaker 1: soared across the sky, frogs croaked from the greenery, and
00:21:04
Speaker 1: lizards sunbathed on the rocks. A brown feathered bird with
00:21:09
Speaker 1: blue spotted wings and a wide, smiling beak welcomed them
00:21:15
Speaker 1: with a cackling laugh that filled the whole clearing and
00:21:18
Speaker 1: set the koalas off laughing too. That's a cuckoobarrah Keith said,
00:21:26
Speaker 1: they're the funniest bird, always telling jokes. Shirley opened the
00:21:32
Speaker 1: trunk of the plane and pulled out her backpack filled
00:21:35
Speaker 1: with treats and fruit. They each nibbled on some trail
00:21:39
Speaker 1: mix and set off hiking through the bush. Kocho closed
00:21:45
Speaker 1: his eyes and listened to the coops, songs and trills
00:21:50
Speaker 1: of the birds. He had never heard bird's song so
00:21:54
Speaker 1: loud and lovely. Then he bumped into a tree and
00:22:00
Speaker 1: decided to keep his eyes open for the rest of
00:22:02
Speaker 1: the walk. When the three koalas rounded the hill, they
00:22:07
Speaker 1: came across a rocky plain, green and vibrant, covered in
00:22:12
Speaker 1: orange rock formations. Not far ahead of them, an animal
00:22:18
Speaker 1: sunbathed on the grass. She had a pointed nose, pink
00:22:22
Speaker 1: round ears, and the springy legs of a kangaroo, though
00:22:27
Speaker 1: she was barely a tenth of a kangaroo's size. Her long,
00:22:32
Speaker 1: thin tail wrapped around her as she snored in the sun.
00:22:38
Speaker 1: Cooco had never seen this animal before. What is she,
00:22:44
Speaker 1: he asked Keith. Keith lowered his sunglasses and said, oh,
00:22:51
Speaker 1: it's a bandicoot. As they approached, the bandicoot snorted and
00:22:57
Speaker 1: woke herself up. She sat on her round behind and
00:23:01
Speaker 1: looked around as if startled. Sorry to startle you, Keith said,
00:23:06
Speaker 1: I'm Keith, and this is Coco and surely my new
00:23:12
Speaker 1: family members from over the sea. The bandicoot giggled and
00:23:17
Speaker 1: said a warm hello. She introduced herself as Marty. She
00:23:21
Speaker 1: said she was nocturnal usually, but every now and again
00:23:25
Speaker 1: she liked to see the park by daylight, when the
00:23:28
Speaker 1: sun lit up the golden stone and danced on the water.
00:23:32
Speaker 1: She always ended up dozing off though. Keith asked Marty
00:23:37
Speaker 1: whether she had any suggestions of things they should see
00:23:41
Speaker 1: whilst here in the park. Oh, yes, Marty said, follow me.
00:23:47
Speaker 1: The bandicoot span on her tail and hopped off across
00:23:51
Speaker 1: the plains. Coco had to skip to keep up with her.
00:23:56
Speaker 1: Eventually she stopped in what looked like a cave. Here
00:24:01
Speaker 1: is the hidden gem of the park and a big
00:24:05
Speaker 1: part of Australian history, Marty explained. They are Aboriginal cave paintings,
00:24:13
Speaker 1: and some of them are twenty thousand years old. Koco
00:24:19
Speaker 1: couldn't even count that high. He couldn't believe a painting
00:24:23
Speaker 1: could last that long. The Aboriginal people are the native
00:24:28
Speaker 1: people of Australia, Marty continued. Their ancestors have lived here
00:24:35
Speaker 1: for the longest and they know the land better than anyone.
00:24:40
Speaker 1: Aboriginal culture is rich and their art is famous across
00:24:45
Speaker 1: the world. Their paintings tell stories with dots and lines
00:24:52
Speaker 1: and vibrant colors, and the Aboriginal people have so many
00:24:57
Speaker 1: stories to tell on these rocks. Their paintings tell us
00:25:03
Speaker 1: about the past, the animals and people who used to
00:25:07
Speaker 1: live here. She led the koalas into the cave, where beautiful,
00:25:13
Speaker 1: intricate paintings covered the rocks. Coco instantly pointed at one
00:25:19
Speaker 1: of the depictions. That's a kangaroo, he said, like my
00:25:26
Speaker 1: cousin Kiki. And that's a turtle with a long neck.
00:25:31
Speaker 1: Marty smiled. That's right, she said, And some of these
00:25:37
Speaker 1: paintings depict animals that aren't here anymore. Do you know
00:25:42
Speaker 1: what this is? She pointed to a painting that looked
00:25:46
Speaker 1: like a lion. Coco shook his head. I'm not surprised,
00:25:51
Speaker 1: Marty said, this is a Tasmanian tiger. They haven't lived
00:25:57
Speaker 1: in these lands for two thousand years is Coco was amazed.
00:26:03
Speaker 1: It was like the paintings were transporting him back in time.
00:26:08
Speaker 1: Marty pointed out more complex paintings and explained their meanings.
00:26:14
Speaker 1: They depicted their painter's beliefs and stories they wanted to
00:26:18
Speaker 1: tell from all those years ago. The Koalas looked at
00:26:24
Speaker 1: the paintings a while longer before thanking Marty and inviting
00:26:29
Speaker 1: her onwards with them. Marty said she would have loved to,
00:26:33
Speaker 1: but she couldn't. She needed a nap. Coco yawned, maybe
00:26:40
Speaker 1: he needed a nap too. The three Koalas walked back
00:26:45
Speaker 1: through the National Park towards Auntie Shirley's Little Red Plain.
00:26:51
Speaker 1: There's only one more stop on our tour, Keith said,
00:26:56
Speaker 1: and it's back where we started. Aunt Shirley turned on
00:27:02
Speaker 1: the engine and once more they headed up, up, up,
00:27:07
Speaker 1: into the blue sky. By the time they touched back
00:27:11
Speaker 1: down on to Bell's Beach, the sky was dusky. Keith
00:27:16
Speaker 1: rustled in the bushes near his favorite tree and poured
00:27:20
Speaker 1: out his barbecue and set it on the beach. He
00:27:23
Speaker 1: cooked a variety of fresh vegetables until they were charred
00:27:27
Speaker 1: and soft, and put them between fluffy bread for them
00:27:31
Speaker 1: to munch on. As the sun drifted gently down towards
00:27:36
Speaker 1: the horizon, other animals sat on the beach too, gazing
00:27:41
Speaker 1: out at the ocean. The sky began to smudge with
00:27:46
Speaker 1: soft pinks and purples, and the orange sun reflected off
00:27:52
Speaker 1: the rippling waves. Orcas and humpback whales, curved paths through
00:27:58
Speaker 1: the water, jumping on occasion to be silhouetted against the
00:28:03
Speaker 1: darkening stars. Before long, Ko Ko drifted off to sleep
00:28:10
Speaker 1: with his head on Auntie Shirley's shoulder. Well, I guess
00:28:16
Speaker 1: it's time to go home, she said, as Ko Ko
00:28:20
Speaker 1: stirred and opened his eyes. He protested, but secretly knew
00:28:25
Speaker 1: that his auntie was right. The two Koalas said good
00:28:30
Speaker 1: bye to Keith. They hugged him and promised they'd come
00:28:34
Speaker 1: back soon. He could meet Grandma and Grandpa and Mum
00:28:39
Speaker 1: and dad, and they could meet his whole family too.
00:28:44
Speaker 1: Keith told them they were welcome any time. Auntie Shirley
00:28:51
Speaker 1: put her arm around Ko Ko as they returned to
00:28:54
Speaker 1: the aeroplane and tucked a blanket around him as he
00:28:58
Speaker 1: climbed in his seat. Keith was waving from the beach
00:29:03
Speaker 1: as the plane whirred to life and rose into the sky,
00:29:08
Speaker 1: and Coco waved back until he was just a little
00:29:12
Speaker 1: dot below them. Then Coco said good night to his
00:29:17
Speaker 1: Auntie Shirley and thanked her for the amazing adventure, and
00:29:23
Speaker 1: drifted off into his dreams.
