Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome back to Kohala Moon, a podcast of
00:00:14
Speaker 1: original children's bedtime stories and meditations designed to make a
00:00:19
Speaker 1: bedtime and dream well. First things first, Happy birthday to
00:00:26
Speaker 1: Adlie and Blueberry, who are seven and four a combined
00:00:31
Speaker 1: grand old age of eleven years. And also welcome into
00:00:35
Speaker 1: our cozy little club, Imogen from Melbourne, James and Anna
00:00:39
Speaker 1: of Rockford, Michigan, Leila Rose, and of course Maxie Jane
00:00:44
Speaker 1: from Pennsylvania. It's great to have you join us. Thanks
00:00:47
Speaker 1: for backing us and giving us your ears for the
00:00:50
Speaker 1: next year. Hopefully you'll all enjoy getting your stories without
00:00:53
Speaker 1: any ads from now on. We're returning to sleepy forest tonight,
00:00:58
Speaker 1: in fact, specifically to sleepy River, in fact, even more accurately,
00:01:05
Speaker 1: to Buck the beavers down, because he's there scratching his
00:01:09
Speaker 1: little head wondering what on earth is going on. There's
00:01:13
Speaker 1: something peculiar happening in the water. Instead of seeing it
00:01:17
Speaker 1: flowing with its usual crystal clear sparkles, the river is
00:01:23
Speaker 1: sort of brown, the exact color of chocolate. Being a
00:01:28
Speaker 1: very conscientious sort of beaver, Buck doesn't ignore it. He
00:01:32
Speaker 1: decides to take a closer look, and when he realizes
00:01:36
Speaker 1: what is going on. He immediately swings into action. Perhaps
00:01:41
Speaker 1: we should all be a bit more. Buck, have a
00:01:44
Speaker 1: listen and see what you think. I'm guessing you're already
00:01:48
Speaker 1: in bed, But if not, hop in, have a stretch
00:01:51
Speaker 1: and snuggle right down. It's time to close your eyes
00:01:55
Speaker 1: and open your ears as I begin. Buck the Beaver
00:02:00
Speaker 1: and the Chocolatey River by Luke Prendergast. Buck the beaver
00:02:11
Speaker 1: had been living in his new dam for almost a year,
00:02:14
Speaker 1: and if you asked him, he'd tell you that he
00:02:16
Speaker 1: was very pleased with it. Indeed, it was built as
00:02:20
Speaker 1: far as he was concerned, on the most beautiful stretch
00:02:24
Speaker 1: of Sleepy River, right in the heart of sleepy forest.
00:02:29
Speaker 1: All of his friends agreed. The banks of the river
00:02:33
Speaker 1: were covered in wildflowers of all kinds, with honey bees
00:02:36
Speaker 1: which bounced from bud to bud searching for nectar. The
00:02:41
Speaker 1: trees stretched up into the sky and spread a leafy
00:02:45
Speaker 1: canopy through which the sunshine fell dappled onto the forest floor.
00:02:50
Speaker 1: But best of all, the water here was a perfectly
00:02:54
Speaker 1: clear blue and sparkled and glittered as it ran merrily downstream.
00:03:01
Speaker 1: That is, it was the most perfect stretch of water
00:03:05
Speaker 1: until one morning, when Buck woke up and poked his
00:03:08
Speaker 1: head out of the window of his dam to discover
00:03:11
Speaker 1: a little piece of rubbish floating on by. He peered
00:03:15
Speaker 1: down at it and discovered that it was a chocolate wrapper,
00:03:20
Speaker 1: a little grumpily, for he was not used to seeing
00:03:22
Speaker 1: such a sight first thing in the morning, Buck the
00:03:25
Speaker 1: Beaver put on his plaid hat, pulled the flaps down
00:03:29
Speaker 1: firmly over his ears, and laced up his boots. Then
00:03:33
Speaker 1: he went outside to give the situation a closer look.
00:03:38
Speaker 1: He picked up a long stick he found on the
00:03:41
Speaker 1: bank side and fished out the wrapper. And he was right.
00:03:45
Speaker 1: It was a chocolate wrapper from a chocolate made by
00:03:49
Speaker 1: a Papa Parline's chocolate factory, which stood on the far
00:03:52
Speaker 1: side of Sleepy Forest. He tucked the chocolate wrapper into
00:03:57
Speaker 1: the pocket of his trousers. Like all good sisters Sleepy Forest,
00:04:01
Speaker 1: he would dispose of the little bit of rubbish in
00:04:03
Speaker 1: a bin. But just as he was doing this, he
00:04:07
Speaker 1: noticed something else peculiar about the river. While most of
00:04:11
Speaker 1: the water was clear and sparkling, as it usually was,
00:04:15
Speaker 1: there was one little current quite close to the river
00:04:19
Speaker 1: bank that was not. In fact, it was a rich
00:04:24
Speaker 1: brown color and the more that Buck looked at it,
00:04:28
Speaker 1: the more that he suspected he knew just what it was.
00:04:34
Speaker 1: He dipped his finger into the river and then tasted it. Yes,
00:04:39
Speaker 1: he was right, chocolate, a little seam of melted chocolate
00:04:46
Speaker 1: was running right down the river. Wow, that was rather peculiar.
00:04:52
Speaker 1: Indeed delicious, no doubt, but peculiar. He would have to
00:04:57
Speaker 1: go and see Papa Parline to discover what all of
00:05:00
Speaker 1: this was about. Buck walked steadily along the riverside, up
00:05:06
Speaker 1: through sleepy forest. He was a beaver on a mission,
00:05:11
Speaker 1: and he knew just where he was going. Beside him,
00:05:15
Speaker 1: the forest grew thick and green with life, and the
00:05:18
Speaker 1: sun shone its dappled light down through the leafy canopy.
00:05:24
Speaker 1: When he passed other forest creatures who called out his
00:05:27
Speaker 1: name in greeting, he called back, waved his pow and
00:05:31
Speaker 1: nodded seriously at them, And those creatures all nodded back
00:05:36
Speaker 1: and thought to themselves admiringly. There goes Buck, off to
00:05:41
Speaker 1: fix some problem again. Eventually, after he had been walking
00:05:47
Speaker 1: for quite some time, Buck reached his destination. Here was
00:05:52
Speaker 1: Papa Pararlene's chocolate factory, a large wooden building with many
00:05:58
Speaker 1: windows in the walls and a chimney on the roof.
00:06:02
Speaker 1: A wooden fence circled its perimeter, and its grassy lawns
00:06:06
Speaker 1: were of a particularly bright green. Buck approached the brown
00:06:11
Speaker 1: bear guard and told him that he was here to
00:06:14
Speaker 1: see Papa Parleine. Please. The guard gave him a friendly
00:06:19
Speaker 1: nod and told him to go straight through to the factory.
00:06:23
Speaker 1: Buck began to stride up the path, but before he
00:06:26
Speaker 1: had reached the grand wooden double doors, they swung open
00:06:30
Speaker 1: and out came a bear with black, sparkling eyes and
00:06:34
Speaker 1: a coat of the purest, most lustrous white. It was
00:06:38
Speaker 1: Papa Pararlene himself, Buck, said, Papa Pararlen with a big
00:06:45
Speaker 1: toothy smile, shaking Buck by the hand, Just a beaver
00:06:50
Speaker 1: I was hoping to see. Oh, I was just on
00:06:53
Speaker 1: my way down into the forest to come and get
00:06:56
Speaker 1: you myself, And yet here you are already. You're always
00:07:01
Speaker 1: one step ahead, aren't you, Buck returned the white bear's smile.
00:07:07
Speaker 1: What is it you are looking for me for Papa Parlin,
00:07:10
Speaker 1: he asked, Well, Buck, as you may have noticed, we've
00:07:16
Speaker 1: had a tiny leak from one of our chocolate pipes
00:07:20
Speaker 1: which is trickling into the river. Buck told Papa Parley
00:07:25
Speaker 1: that he had noticed he'd seen the little seam of
00:07:29
Speaker 1: chocolate flowing past his dam this morning. He'd even tasted it,
00:07:35
Speaker 1: and he had to say that Papa Parline's chocolate was
00:07:38
Speaker 1: very tasty. Indeed, Oh, that's very kind of you to say, Buck,
00:07:44
Speaker 1: But of course, as you'd agree, we can't have any
00:07:47
Speaker 1: chocolate leaking into the river. It's important that we keep
00:07:51
Speaker 1: our Sleepy River sparkling clean so that all the inhabitants
00:07:56
Speaker 1: of Sleepy Forest can enjoy it to its greatest potential.
00:08:01
Speaker 1: Buck couldn't have put it better himself, and so Papa
00:08:06
Speaker 1: Parleine went on, because you're the handiest creature in town,
00:08:11
Speaker 1: always so good at fixing things and working out ingenious
00:08:16
Speaker 1: solutions to all kinds of mechanical problems. Do you think
00:08:20
Speaker 1: you could come and have a look at the leak
00:08:23
Speaker 1: and advise us and what is best to do. I'll
00:08:27
Speaker 1: be happy to Buck said. Papa Parlene, turned on his
00:08:33
Speaker 1: rear paws and went back inside his factory. Without a
00:08:37
Speaker 1: moment's hesitation. Buck followed him in. Buck and Papa Parlein
00:08:42
Speaker 1: had known each other for many years since their school
00:08:46
Speaker 1: days at Sleepy Forest. Elementary school back then. The White Bear,
00:08:52
Speaker 1: then a youngster, was a ferociously clever student. He always
00:08:57
Speaker 1: had his black button nose buried in a head fifty
00:09:00
Speaker 1: science book, and he was always crafting new concoctions. Buck, meanwhile,
00:09:07
Speaker 1: had loved all things practical, designing and fixing things up
00:09:11
Speaker 1: so that they worked smoothly and efficiently, and that was
00:09:15
Speaker 1: why Papa Parlene had been looking for him. Papa Parleine
00:09:21
Speaker 1: led Buck through the grand Welcoming Hall and through a
00:09:24
Speaker 1: door with a plaque on it which read the Melting Room.
00:09:29
Speaker 1: Inside the room was filled with a number of caudrons
00:09:32
Speaker 1: of bubbling melted chocolate, and a whole network of pipes
00:09:36
Speaker 1: that ran around the walls, transporting different kinds of melted
00:09:40
Speaker 1: chocolates into different pots. Papa Parleen pointed to one section
00:09:45
Speaker 1: of the piping and said, so, Buck, you can see
00:09:49
Speaker 1: our problem. But could indeed see the problem. A section
00:09:56
Speaker 1: of piping had sprung a leak, so that a thin
00:09:59
Speaker 1: stream of mel chocolate was shooting out of it and
00:10:02
Speaker 1: straight through a gap in the wall above the window.
00:10:07
Speaker 1: When Buck went to peer out of the window, he
00:10:10
Speaker 1: could see the stream of chocolate landing right in the river,
00:10:14
Speaker 1: which snaked along the side of the factory. So Buck said,
00:10:20
Speaker 1: Papa Parline, you're a crafty beaver, skilled at building dams
00:10:26
Speaker 1: and holes and all other kinds of wonderful contraptions. Do
00:10:31
Speaker 1: you think you could help us fill this hole? Buck
00:10:35
Speaker 1: narrowed his eyes at the pipe, quickly calculating what it
00:10:39
Speaker 1: would take to fix. Then he nodded. Yes, he said,
00:10:45
Speaker 1: but I'll need some kind of very strong material to
00:10:48
Speaker 1: fill the hole. Do you have any ideas? Papa Parline
00:10:53
Speaker 1: stroked the hairs on his chin while he contemplated the question.
00:10:58
Speaker 1: Then he lifted a finger in the air. I've just
00:11:03
Speaker 1: had an idea. How about melted cherry drops. When the
00:11:09
Speaker 1: candy sets, it sets very hard, indeed hard enough if
00:11:14
Speaker 1: you're not careful to break your teeth. Buck the beaver
00:11:19
Speaker 1: gave Papapriyllye a thumbs up. That sounds perfect. Within a moment,
00:11:25
Speaker 1: a little squirrel who worked in the factory came in
00:11:29
Speaker 1: bearing a pot of melted cherry drops. The substance was
00:11:33
Speaker 1: thick and bright red and smelled ever so sweet. But
00:11:39
Speaker 1: got to work very carefully. He poured the melted cherry
00:11:44
Speaker 1: drop mixture into the hole and then fanned it with
00:11:48
Speaker 1: cool air, so the substance would set quickly. In no
00:11:52
Speaker 1: time at all, the hole was filled and the thin
00:11:55
Speaker 1: stream of chocolate was no longer shooting out of it.
00:12:00
Speaker 1: Papa Parlen clapped his paws together. Bravo, Buck, thank you
00:12:07
Speaker 1: ever so much. I knew I could count on you
00:12:10
Speaker 1: to come up with some kind of smart fix. No problem,
00:12:16
Speaker 1: Papa Parlein, Buck replied that should hold strong for many
00:12:22
Speaker 1: years now. He gave the cherry drop fixed pipe a lick,
00:12:27
Speaker 1: and it tastes pretty good too, he added, which made
00:12:32
Speaker 1: Papa Prilein clutch his belly and laugh. Thank you, Buck,
00:12:38
Speaker 1: Papa Parlein said again, we're ever so grateful. Thanks to you,
00:12:44
Speaker 1: we've kept Sleepy River crystal clear and clean for everybody
00:12:50
Speaker 1: to enjoy, because Sleepy Forest is the best it can
00:12:54
Speaker 1: be only when it's kept absolutely green. When he heard
00:13:02
Speaker 1: Papa Parleine say these words, it was like a light
00:13:06
Speaker 1: had suddenly gone on in his mind. It had a
00:13:09
Speaker 1: sudden idea, and it must have been visible on his face,
00:13:14
Speaker 1: because Papa Parleine raised his white, bushy eyebrows and said, well, Buck,
00:13:21
Speaker 1: it looks as though something's just struck your mind. Tell
00:13:26
Speaker 1: me please for an answer, Buck, pulled the chocolate wrapper
00:13:31
Speaker 1: he'd fished out of the river that morning out of
00:13:34
Speaker 1: his pocket. He told Papa Parlein how before he'd noticed
00:13:39
Speaker 1: the stream of mounted chocolate flowing down Sleepy River, he'd
00:13:43
Speaker 1: watched a chocolate wrapper float past, and he picked it out. Now,
00:13:49
Speaker 1: Sleepy River was a very beautiful forest. It was clean
00:13:54
Speaker 1: and healthy, and everyone who lived there appreciated it very much.
00:13:59
Speaker 1: But from time to time Buck had noticed that sometimes
00:14:03
Speaker 1: bits of litter might accidentally get out. By no means
00:14:08
Speaker 1: was there a lot, but it was important for there
00:14:12
Speaker 1: to be none, for any bit of litter could be
00:14:16
Speaker 1: bad for the environment. And he had just had an idea.
00:14:20
Speaker 1: Why didn't they organize a big forest cleanup to get
00:14:25
Speaker 1: the place completely spick and span. It could be a
00:14:28
Speaker 1: community thing. Everyone could get involved. It could bring everyone
00:14:34
Speaker 1: in Sleepy Forest together at the same time as keeping
00:14:38
Speaker 1: the forest young and green. So Papa Parlin, Buck the
00:14:44
Speaker 1: Beaver concluded, what do you think? Papa Parlin thought it
00:14:51
Speaker 1: was a fantastic idea, one of the most fantastic ideas
00:14:56
Speaker 1: he'd ever heard, and he thought they should set the
00:14:59
Speaker 1: plan in action immediately, and so Buck and Papa Parley
00:15:05
Speaker 1: left the factory strolled down the path and through the
00:15:09
Speaker 1: gate in the fence, and then they kept on going.
00:15:14
Speaker 1: They walked together down the river through the dappled light
00:15:18
Speaker 1: coming through the trees. Buck led Papa Parley in all
00:15:22
Speaker 1: the way back the way he'd come that morning, until
00:15:25
Speaker 1: they returned into the heart of the forest. As they
00:15:30
Speaker 1: approached bucks Down, the beaver looked up into the trees
00:15:35
Speaker 1: where he spotted his old friend, the nightingale, who sang
00:15:39
Speaker 1: such beautiful songs each evening to send the citizens of
00:15:43
Speaker 1: Sleepy Forest into a peaceful sleep. Hello called up to her.
00:15:50
Speaker 1: It's me Buck, Please, could you send a message to
00:15:54
Speaker 1: all the creatures who live in these woods. There's a
00:15:57
Speaker 1: town meeting being called right away. We'll have it in
00:16:01
Speaker 1: the playground, a Sleepy Forest elementary school. Everyone will be
00:16:06
Speaker 1: able to fit there. And with a flap of her wings,
00:16:11
Speaker 1: the nightingale was off singing her tune through the forest.
00:16:16
Speaker 1: Buck and Papa Parleen trod on down the river bank
00:16:20
Speaker 1: as they heard first one bird, then another, then a
00:16:24
Speaker 1: dozen more pick up the nighting girl's tune. Even though
00:16:29
Speaker 1: Sleepy Forest was usually a quiet and slow moving kind
00:16:33
Speaker 1: of place, this was the animal's way of getting a
00:16:37
Speaker 1: message quickly through the forest. If they needed to, they
00:16:41
Speaker 1: passed it from tree to tree through bird song. When
00:16:46
Speaker 1: Buck and Papa Parleen arrived at Sleepy Forest Elementary School,
00:16:51
Speaker 1: a crowd of forest creatures had already gathered in the playground.
00:16:57
Speaker 1: There were the two dark sisters, Bread and Butter, cracking
00:17:00
Speaker 1: merrily to themselves, and Camo, the comedian, who today had
00:17:05
Speaker 1: turned his skin into a deep blue color. And there
00:17:09
Speaker 1: was even Coco and his little sister Kira with all
00:17:13
Speaker 1: of their family. They'd heard the birds song message from
00:17:17
Speaker 1: their cozy log cabin and had come right away, and
00:17:22
Speaker 1: everyone wanted to know why it was that Buck had
00:17:26
Speaker 1: called a forest meeting. There was a big round tree
00:17:31
Speaker 1: stump in the middle of the playground which made a
00:17:33
Speaker 1: perfect little podium. Buck the beaver got up onto the
00:17:38
Speaker 1: tree stump, and when all of the inhabitants of Sleepy
00:17:42
Speaker 1: Forests saw him there, they began to quieten down their
00:17:45
Speaker 1: chitter chatter and listen. They all watched him expectantly, my
00:17:52
Speaker 1: fellow Sleepy Foresters. He called out, thank you all so
00:17:57
Speaker 1: much for coming to this town meeting so quickly. It's
00:18:01
Speaker 1: much appreciated. I'm sure you're all wondering what this is
00:18:06
Speaker 1: all about. There were noises of agreement from the crowd. Well,
00:18:12
Speaker 1: I've just been to Papa Parlene's chocolate factory, Buck explained,
00:18:18
Speaker 1: where I helped him to fix an issue with one
00:18:21
Speaker 1: of his pipes, which was leaking chocolate into the river.
00:18:25
Speaker 1: And while I was there, Papa Parlene and I came
00:18:28
Speaker 1: up with a wonderful idea. We all love Sleepy Forest dearly.
00:18:34
Speaker 1: The earth and trees and plants that grow here nurse
00:18:39
Speaker 1: and nourish us, and the river that runs straight through
00:18:43
Speaker 1: it keeps us healthy and full of life. And most
00:18:47
Speaker 1: of the time we're very good at looking after our
00:18:50
Speaker 1: little forest haven. But sometimes I've noticed little bits of
00:18:54
Speaker 1: litter can be left around, and it's important that that
00:18:59
Speaker 1: doesn't happen, because we need to keep the forest clean
00:19:02
Speaker 1: and green. A clean and green forest means a forest
00:19:08
Speaker 1: that lives healthier and more happily, and that in turn
00:19:12
Speaker 1: makes all of us live more healthily and happily. So
00:19:18
Speaker 1: what we thought was that we could spend a few
00:19:21
Speaker 1: hours today doing a Sleepy Forest clean up. If all
00:19:26
Speaker 1: of us chip in, it won't take too long. Just
00:19:29
Speaker 1: searching the forest for any bits of rubbish that might
00:19:32
Speaker 1: have slipped by us unawares. It might even be a
00:19:36
Speaker 1: good way for us all to bond together and spend
00:19:38
Speaker 1: some time as a forest community. So, foresters, what do
00:19:43
Speaker 1: you say? We love it, cried Coco the Koala, and
00:19:49
Speaker 1: within a moment, everyone who has gathered there in sleepy
00:19:52
Speaker 1: Forest elementary school was calling out in agreement. Some creatures
00:19:58
Speaker 1: set up whistles and cheers. Already they were forming groups,
00:20:03
Speaker 1: teaming up with their friends, or introducing themselves to residents
00:20:08
Speaker 1: of the forest they hadn't spoken to very much before.
00:20:12
Speaker 1: And then everyone began to spill out of the playground
00:20:16
Speaker 1: and out into the forest. There was work to be done,
00:20:22
Speaker 1: so off they went. Cocoa and Kira, along with the
00:20:26
Speaker 1: rest of their family, climbed the trees, searching for any
00:20:30
Speaker 1: bits of rubbish they might have caught in the branches.
00:20:35
Speaker 1: Koalas and Pandas are very able climbers, so they were
00:20:39
Speaker 1: perfectly suited to the job. They found a couple of
00:20:43
Speaker 1: bits of rubbish, but then Kira noticed and wrappers caught
00:20:47
Speaker 1: on the tip topmost branches, out of reach even for her.
00:20:53
Speaker 1: So Bread and Butter, the two duck sisters, along with
00:20:56
Speaker 1: all the other birds, of the forest, spread their wings
00:21:00
Speaker 1: and soared up to the top of the canopy. There
00:21:05
Speaker 1: they tugged the out of reach bits from the branches
00:21:08
Speaker 1: where they were stuck and flew them down to be
00:21:11
Speaker 1: put in the green collection bags that Papa Parline had distributed. Meanwhile,
00:21:18
Speaker 1: Camo the chameleon had teamed up with his friend Prickles
00:21:21
Speaker 1: the hedgehog, and together they searched all the hidden and
00:21:26
Speaker 1: mysterious corners of Sleepy Forest, the undergrowth and the thickets,
00:21:32
Speaker 1: the caves and grottoes underneath bushes and under rocks where
00:21:38
Speaker 1: lichen grows. And Buck the beaver and Papa Parlene patrolled
00:21:44
Speaker 1: the banks of Sleepy River, searching the water for anything
00:21:49
Speaker 1: that shouldn't be there. When they spotted something, they would
00:21:54
Speaker 1: point and call out, and a team of friendly fish
00:21:59
Speaker 1: and a couple of swift swimming otters would dive through
00:22:02
Speaker 1: the crystal waters to fetch them and return them to
00:22:05
Speaker 1: the bank. Sleepy Forest was large and had many hard
00:22:12
Speaker 1: to reach places, but the Great Forest clean Up was
00:22:16
Speaker 1: not so difficult a task, mostly because they had such
00:22:20
Speaker 1: fun doing it. They got to chat with their friends,
00:22:24
Speaker 1: play games, and discover all kinds of places in the forest.
00:22:29
Speaker 1: They had never known about before. By the time everyone
00:22:35
Speaker 1: returned to Sleepy Forest Elementary, it was early evening and
00:22:40
Speaker 1: the sun was setting. Everyone looked tired and happy. Then
00:22:45
Speaker 1: a cloud of friendly fireflies had come out to provide
00:22:48
Speaker 1: some light. Buck stoored back up on the little tree
00:22:54
Speaker 1: stump and cleared his throat. Well done, Sleepy Foresters, what
00:23:00
Speaker 1: a great team effort today has been. We've done a
00:23:04
Speaker 1: forest clean up and collected a couple of bags of
00:23:08
Speaker 1: litter from our leafy paradise. So many thanks are in order.
00:23:14
Speaker 1: No Buck, Coco, the koala called out, we should be
00:23:19
Speaker 1: thanking you. What an excellent idea it was to clean
00:23:24
Speaker 1: up the forest, and it's really brought us all together too.
00:23:29
Speaker 1: We should do a clean up like this regularly to
00:23:33
Speaker 1: keep the forest extra clean. Buck smiled at Coco and
00:23:39
Speaker 1: smiled at everyone who had congregated there in the playground.
00:23:43
Speaker 1: That was truly a wonderful idea, he told them, and
00:23:47
Speaker 1: everyone agreed. Many of the foresters had made new friends
00:23:51
Speaker 1: that day or else while chatting away during the search,
00:23:55
Speaker 1: had discovered things about their old friends that they'd never
00:23:59
Speaker 1: known before. It made them all feel rather warm and
00:24:04
Speaker 1: fuzzy inside each and every one of them felt to
00:24:09
Speaker 1: day more than ever, like a real community. Just then,
00:24:15
Speaker 1: Papa Praleine appeared, rolling a big wooden barrel on wheels.
00:24:21
Speaker 1: What's this, Papa Parlein, buck asked curiously. Papa Parlen tapped
00:24:29
Speaker 1: the top of the barrel with a big white paw. This,
00:24:34
Speaker 1: he said, is a that of the finest Papa Parlen
00:24:40
Speaker 1: hot chocolate. I think everyone deserves a nice cup of
00:24:45
Speaker 1: it now after this long, hard day of work. It
00:24:51
Speaker 1: will help send everyone off into the most cozy and
00:24:55
Speaker 1: peaceful of sleeps any of you have ever had. Smiles
00:25:00
Speaker 1: spread over the faces of all of the creatures of
00:25:04
Speaker 1: Sleepy Forest. Some clapped their hands together, some of them
00:25:09
Speaker 1: let out cheers, Bread and Butter started up a quacking chant.
00:25:15
Speaker 1: Papa Pralein, Papa Parlen, Papa Pralen. All of the forest
00:25:22
Speaker 1: creatures were fans of Papa Pralein because he made the
00:25:27
Speaker 1: most delicious chocolate in the whole wide world. So they
00:25:33
Speaker 1: formed an orderly queue, and one by one they were
00:25:38
Speaker 1: handed a little biodegradable cup of hot chocolate. Then they
00:25:43
Speaker 1: stood around in groups, sipping their hot chocolate and chatting
00:25:48
Speaker 1: about what a fun and unusual day they'd had until
00:25:52
Speaker 1: the yawning started. Coco the Koala was the first one
00:25:58
Speaker 1: to yawn, but soon everyone started. Papa Parlene was certainly right.
00:26:06
Speaker 1: The hot chocolate made everyone ready for bed, or maybe
00:26:11
Speaker 1: that was all the physical labor they'd done that day.
00:26:15
Speaker 1: One by one, the inhabitants of Sleepy Forests said their
00:26:20
Speaker 1: good knights, gave their friends old and new, big warm hugs,
00:26:27
Speaker 1: and peeled off for their beds. Some went to nests,
00:26:33
Speaker 1: some went to burrows, some went to log cabins built
00:26:38
Speaker 1: beneath tall pine trees. At last, it was only Buck
00:26:44
Speaker 1: the beaver and Papa Parlene left. They sat either side
00:26:49
Speaker 1: of the tree stump, which they had earlier that day
00:26:52
Speaker 1: used as a podium. Papa Parleine cleared his throat. I
00:27:02
Speaker 1: want to thank you Buck for all of your help
00:27:06
Speaker 1: to day. You really came to the rescue. I don't
00:27:12
Speaker 1: know what we would have done without you. Buck, who
00:27:17
Speaker 1: was a very modest kind of beaver, only blushed. It's
00:27:23
Speaker 1: nothing at all. Oh no, said Papa Pararline. You fixed
00:27:32
Speaker 1: the hole in the chocolate pipe, and then you organized
00:27:37
Speaker 1: the greatest team effort Sleepy Forest has ever seen. You've
00:27:45
Speaker 1: kept Sleepy Forest green and thriving, and you've made everyone
00:27:52
Speaker 1: who lives here feel closer to each other and happier
00:27:57
Speaker 1: than they had been when they woke up. That's something
00:28:01
Speaker 1: to be proud of. Thank you, Papa Parlin. Buck said,
00:28:08
Speaker 1: But you deserve a thank you too. These delicious chocolate
00:28:14
Speaker 1: treats you bring to Sleepy Forest, which when we eat
00:28:18
Speaker 1: them every now and then, make our days a whole
00:28:22
Speaker 1: lot better. There's no way to measure that kind of good.
00:28:29
Speaker 1: Papa Parlen smiled at Buck the Beaver, his old friend
00:28:34
Speaker 1: from school. Well, he said, what do you say to
00:28:41
Speaker 1: one last cup of hot chocolate just before we go
00:28:47
Speaker 1: to bed? Buck the Beaver returned Papa Parlen's warm smile
00:28:56
Speaker 1: that he said, sounds like a very good idea. Indeed,
